Selling an Estate Property in Ontario

A step by step look at what estate trustees usually deal with when selling a home.

Confirm authority

The estate trustee named in the will usually signs. If the home was not owned jointly, the buyer's lawyer will often require a Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee before closing. The estate lawyer will confirm.

Protect the property

Tell the insurer the home is vacant. Keep the heat on in winter, check on the house regularly and collect the mail.

Clear and prepare

Family keepsakes first, then donations, then removal. A light clean and a few repairs can make a real difference in price.

Price and sell

Roger prepares a home value report the trustee can share with beneficiaries, so everyone sees how the price was set.
