How to Prepare Your Home to Sell

Buyers decide in the first few seconds of the listing photos. A few weekends of work can change how they see your home.

Start with these

  • Declutter. Pack a third of what is on shelves and counters. Rent a storage unit if needed.
  • Fix the small stuff. Dripping taps, loose handles, burnt bulbs, sticky doors.
  • Paint scuffed walls in a neutral colour.
  • Deep clean including windows, grout and the furnace room.
  • Curb appeal. Cut the grass, trim the shrubs, clean the front door and add a planter.

What usually is not worth it

Full kitchen or bathroom renovations right before selling rarely return their full cost. Roger has renovated homes himself and can tell you where to stop.

Pre-listing inspection

Some sellers order their own home inspection before listing so there are no surprises. It can make sense for older homes. Ask Roger if it fits your situation.
